More Week Two

Another workshop participant working on The Good Shepherd.

And I just couldn't resist. Isn't my littlest just the cutest, evah! One of her usual outfits, and I just don't ever want to forget.

Wow, Renee, how many different icons are your students painting? And how many students do you have?

I once tried letting my novice iconographers do two different ones, but as I teach in a step-by-step, very precise way, I found it exhausting to keep up with two different icons while monitoring the students.
I did it, but I was worn out by the end of the class.
But obviously our methodology differs: I complete the icon I am teaching with the students, demonstrating each step. And they have a completed icon to study before they begin. With my next class I am going to give each of them a color copy to work with, as having only one completed icon means it is in high demand, especially in the later stages.

I arrived at this method because of how much I learned by studying and working with other iconographers' competed icons, which was sort of the second step in my education, after the introductory class we took together.
It pays off in the results; every class I am treated to icons one can hardly believe are first attempts.

Daniel,

I have 10 students. The beginners are mostly writing the Tender Kissing, like we did for our first icon. Three of the participants are "veterans" and chose their own patterns. There are at the workshop for input, advice, supplies, community, as well as for gold leafing, and halo ring application. One of the beginners is doing a "Good Shepherd", which I have done before, and I think she'll do fine. This is a weekly class, and if we have to take longer than we expected to finish, we will.

I have lots of color copies to study, as well as a veritable library of books for them to reference and learn from. I found I have make the most progress by studying other icons as well. So, my class is almost more like a "lab" than a school.

Also, my woman's brain works a little differently than your man's brain, I would say multi tasking is one of my fairer sex's specialties. Men, not so much. No offense, just an observation.

Thank you, Daniel, for visiting. I am so glad to have your questions and input.

Could you tell which icon I am working on?

Barb~ I am going to make certain to get some pictures of your icon this next week. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
